The GE Voluson E10 ultrasound machine is a premium women’s health ultrasound that truly lives up to the name “Premium.” Its most notable feature is the new Matrix 4D transducer. This is a fully electronic 4D probe with no moving parts. This means there is no “sweeping” of the probe, and all images are obtained simultaneously with no lag. This means that frame rates are higher, image quality is great, and the diagnostic images are much more accurate.

As with GE’s previous Voluson ultrasounds, the Voluson E10 is relatively easy to learn, ergonomic, and an overall excellent women’s health ultrasound machine. For those looking for the best 4D imaging (diagnostic and non-diagnostic) and/or a premium top-of-the-line women’s health ultrasound machine, the Voluson E10 is hard to beat.

It’s difficult to understate the impact of a fully digital 4D ultrasound transducer. While this technology has been long-used for cardiac 4D imaging, processing power limited this functionality in 4D obstetric imaging. Add this to its excellent HDlive “lifelike” baybface imaging, a significantly improved processing architecture, and overall improved spatial and temporal resolution… and the Voluson takes its stand at the top of the Women’s Health ultrasound systems.

Processing is 4x that of the GE Voluson E8, which allows it to achieve great frame rates and high resolution with the new Matrix 4D ultrasound probe. This also helps the E10 achieve increased penetration and resolution in difficult-to-image patients. Ergonomics also improved on the E10. It now has an intuitive tablet-style touchscreen that uses gestures as well as touch input. The large OLED display (available as an option) provides sharp and clear images at a very high resolution.

There’s really not another way to say it: this Voluson is very cool, and very amazing. Sure, we may be biased, but I (Brian Gill) have been a Voluson-lover since I first saw one in the year 2000. The user interface, the images, and the innovation were just amazing in 2000, and the innovation never stopped.

In early 2020, I performed a side-by-side comparison with the lineup of popular ultrasounds: Voluson E10, Voluson E8, Voluson E6, and Voluson S8, with Probo applications diva Barb Sheriff. We scanned a difficult-to-image woman who was 37 weeks pregnant, which is obviously a “difficult” image for 4D.

The comparison wasn’t close. The electronic Matrix transducer on the Voluson E10 provided significantly better 2D and 4D images. Significantly better. The electronic probe, combined with the improved processing power, provided for substantially better image quality, penetration, and resolution. Other systems provided a decent 2D image but unrecognizable 4D image. The E10 was the only system that could provide a decent 4D image in such a difficult imaging situation (we honestly thought it was hopeless until we saw the E10). Additionally, the 2D image was quite a bit better than what the other machines produced. We were surprised at how much better the 2D image was over the other Volusons. We didn’t expect this matrix probe to have such an impact.

Besides the great 4D imaging, the used Voluson E10 is also an outstanding machine for Women’s Health all-around. The processing power, ergonomics, and design provide an efficient and ergonomic machine that provides premium ultrasound images.

Did I mention I like the Volusons? This is, by far, the best Voluson to date and this will stand as an amazing Women’s Health ultrasound machine for many years to come. 

HDLive on the Voluson e10 is a new imaging technique for 4D imaging that allows you to use a virtual light source to view a fetus. This gives it a more realistic view of the baby.

SonoBiometry is a semi-automatic process that performs biometric measurements.

Yes, the Voluson e10 can export images to an its integrated DVD/CW RW, Flash memory, or DICOM network for images, backup, and patient data.

Yes, the Voluson e10 has Triplex imaging for Spectral, Color, and 2D simultaneous imaging.

Speckle Reduction Imaging on the Voluson e10 portable ultrasound machine uses a special software algorithm to identify body tissue and eliminate artifact. The result provides a clearer image with reduced artifact.

VOCAL stands for Volume Calculation. It allows for calculations of volumes using 3D technology.

Spatio-Temporal Image Correlation is typically used in research for clinical assessment of the fetal heart. It acquires the fetal heart from a 4D image sequence and analyzes the image to create a 4D cine sequence that presents the fetal heart in a real-time multi-planar display.

Tomographic Ultrasound Imaging uses 4D imaging technology to create multiple “slices” of an image acquisition for clinical evaluation.
